Movie Time:

Friday Night; The Ashton Effect:

Ok, so I knew for sure that "The Butterfly Effect" is one movie I do not wish to see ever, but then I get persuaded by this friend to go see it. Five minutes into the movie we both realize what a mistake this has been. Unfortunately, I am one girl who absolutely refuses to go goo goo gaa gaa over Ashton and his boring performance in this disaster of a movie left me less impressed than what I started with. I hold Ash personally responsible for our time wasted on this horrible film.

Saturday Evening; What a Schmuck:

So I needed to immediately undo the Hollywood effect and decided on "The Cooler". Now I have never been a fan of the Baldwin brothers but Alec's great performance truly amazed me.

Sunday Night; The American Dream:

The best does come last. My weekend ends with the best movie among the three; "In America". I have fallen in love with the whole family, especially the two sisters who are too adorable for words. I, too, believe that magic does happen.

And Now; Our Very Own "Jafar":

I am watching the movie previews and this one preview sends shivers up and down my spine and gets me all proud of being an Iranian once again. "Crimson Gold" by "Jafar Panahi" is a movie I cannot wait to see.

And Yet One More Reason to be Proud:

Everytime I hear Shohreh's name as an Oscar nominee, I get all choked up. Thanks Shohreh.

P.S. Ok, so my best friend is pretty disappointed with The House of Sand and Fog and Shohreh and her nomination! We are talking about the movie and my hilarious friend brings to my attention something funny:
Colonel Behrani to Shohreh after the love-making scene: "We have truly been blessed!"
Now this friend emphatically claims that no Iranian Colonel would ever say that after, excuse my french, you know what!

P.P.S. Hello; it is ME you're looking for!

"Cheshmane Siah"(=Black Eyes) has come to a theater not so near me (an hour away from O.C.). Mohammad Reza Golzar plays the role of this guy who decides not to get married to his fiancee on account of her having gone partially blind. I have seen clips of the movie and Golzar looks absolutely handsome. He has got to come to Hollywood!

Good to be missed,
Be it virtually or otherwise:

So my 24 hours is up and I am back to update before certain evil bloggers report me missing and have my blog taken to a "blog shelter"! I have been asked to, told to, ordered to and threatened to update! Thanks you guys for being such supportive and concerned friends. Highly appreciated.

Jan. '04 has been a pretty busy month so far, good busy that is! Add to the "Jan. busy-ness" a severe case of "Blogger's block" and what you get is APGIC's blog-neglection!

So this has been my Jan. so far:
Dad's in town and he has brought with him all things nice. Among them, lots of Iranian movies. One or two nights a week we pop corn, make aash reshte, have friends over, and sit and watch these movies. My favorite? "Kolaah Ghermezi va Sarvenaaz" of course!
Jobbin' USA, Part 2: I started this interactive, on-campus job at this college a month ago and I'm lovin' it! See, jobbin' USA part one was a cube kind of job, now this one involves meeting people and therefore, it is a job after my own heart. No cubicles for me thank you.
Guitar Player on the Roof: Had a lesson in guitar playing and it was like walking on clouds! Now I played the piano for three years back home but have always been in love with the guitar. All I need is to get me a Spanish guitar with nylon strings, clip my nails short, and I will be all set!

Mr. Bush
Jesus is not happy with you!

Speaking to worshippers at Friday prayers in Tehran, Ayatollah Jannati asked: "Is Jesus happy with Bush?"

Speaking to the TV in front of family and friends at our house in Orange County, my mom asked: "Is Mohammad happy with you guys Mr. Jannati?"

And The Earth Shook
and buried them alive

How awful is the thought of the wonders under
ground
Of the mystic changes wrought in the silent, dark
profound

Over a week ago an ancient city got crumbled and thousands were left dead or injured. The city needs to be built from scratch and the survivors need rebuild their lives.

Friends and relatives back home tell us that many children have become orphans and been taken to the orphanages. A friend has adopted one and tells us how there are other beautiful children in need of care and love. I hope and pray for those capable of granting this love to find it in their hearts and embrace these gorgeous children.

Farewell '03
Wassup '04?

My '03 at a glance:

Moved to the States a couple of weeks before '03.

Managed to get accepted into Law School. (Happy happy about it!).

Started a blog after so long a time being an avid blog reader.

And oh, had my 2 minutes of fame yesterday on KIRN radio!

I have no idea what '04 has in store for us. I just pray for it to be a year of no wars and deaths. A year of happiness for all and health and lots and lots of love flowing around. A year of no lies and pretences, no betraying the trust of one who deems someone worthy of trust, no cheating and backstabbing and no hurts and heartbreaks. A year for all our dreams to come true provided we wholeheartedly believe in them and work hard to achieve 'em. Peace y'all!
