HAPPY BB-DAY TO ME:

Almost two years ago not on this day I started this blog of mine and I am celebrating its birth today since the boss is not in and I have time and know I will not get to write "happy blog bday to me" next week on the actual blog bday day!! Make sense?! Oh well!

Ok, so I know I have neglected this blog a lot. I honestly have not had time to update. No time to go online, no time to write, and sometimes even no time to breathe! My life in Cali is as hectic as hectic can get and you wanna know why? I'll tell you:

1. School started after no summer vacation and with it came hundreds of pages that must be read and thousands of cases that need to be analyzed and professors that want you to tremble the whole duration of class in fear of getting called on! And guess whose name they find challenging to call on? Yours truly's!

2. Turned in my resume to the Public Defender's office to extern at the felony/ misdemeanor section, got accepted. Ended up externing at the Legal-Aid office in Santa Ana. Do reseach and motions for this attorney there, sit in on the clinics and do the hotline. It is pretty depressing how much trouble some people are in. Get to go in only on Fridays all day due to my job and school being on every day else! Takes me over an hour to get there.

3. Started a job as a legal assistant to two Wills and Trusts attorneys at this great law firm . Get up at 7:00 AM and drive in heavy traffic to get there. So far I truly like it. Need to read a lot to learn about Wills and Trusts and Estate planning since I have not yet had the courses at school. Go to school after work. Get home at 10 PM and stay up till 2AM to study and do homework for the next day.

4. Signed up for swimming classes from 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturdays. Very hard to get up at that hour but the extra pounds that have no intention of leaving me the heck alone implicate that I do get up and jump in the cold water in the cold hours of my day off from work, school and externship. If only I could stop eating like a pig after 2 hours of swimming!

5. Helped the Mehregan committee organize their 10th annual Harvest Festival. Went to meetings every Wednesday. Will be at the festival both days from morning to night! Was put in charge of the VIP. Wrote a lot of VIP invites to sheriffs and mayors and judges and such. Will meet them this weekend.

6. Tried out for Trial Advocacy Honors Board and did pretty good to my own surprise! Almost tried out for moot court!

7. Hang out with family and friends. Shoulder some of the responsibilities of living in the States. It is all about bills and paperwork and such here.

And the list goes on and on. I truly need 2 months of vacation in a quiet island, just me and a laptop and free wireless internet, and oh maybe a good looking persian prince to help out if need be. No books, no bills and no fretting over unread pages and scary professors. Is that too much to ask I ask you.

Aug., Sep. Days of My Life

Much has happened. Been busy busy since the start of school. The following are what's been up with me to the best of my recollection:

Back to School: Packed my bags and went back to the school empty of the good friends I had made. 137 got kicked out of school, among them the people I liked best. Thank God my Persian galpals made it. Tried out for the Trial Advocacy Honors Board internal competition. Cross-examined the witness for 5 minutes and did a 5 minute closing argument as my hands and legs were shaking! Will know the result next week probably. Had an interview with the Public Defender's, made the P.D. externship, will start some time next week. Went to the Iranian American Lawyers' Associations' happy hour with my Iranian pals from school, ditched 2 classes, will know how much I have missed next week. Met many young, beautiful, smart Iranian lawyers. Drunk and sober, all seemed pretty cool to me. Was asked to do a poetry night with them once a week. Will know the time and place some time next week.

Three weddings and no funeral: Made it to 2 of the weddings, missed one, missed the funeral in Memphis! The not so big Persian wedding was a whole lotta fun. The fancy one was pretty fancy, got to walk on the red carpet, quite a royal wedding I shall say. Still carrying around my big fat persian buttocks, almost had to look for a dress in the maternity section, that's how big my everything has become! Thank God it was not my own wedding!

Concerts and films: Went to a few concerts and a couple of movies. Hated hated HATED "the aristocrats" with a passion. Walked out 20 minutes into the movie. Loved loved LOVED "the march of the penguins". Cutest creatures ever.
Kamran and Hooman's event: Not so cool! Arash's event in LA: kinda cool! He has a style different from the L.A. singers. Had quite a culture shock among Iranian-L.A.eans! Felt like a country mouse going dancing in the city! A big fat country mouse that is!
